    From a small idea in 1996, Terri Dame has developed Safer Futures into a multi-faceted community development and research program working regionally and around the province. She has worked extensively with local government to foster policy and practice for integrating community safety and social development into planning processes, and at the community level, to promote inclusion in community decision-making. Terri’s background is in Geography with a Community Planning focus; she holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Community Safety and Crime Prevention, and is (forever) working towards her Master’s degree. She enjoys hiking with her daughters Janine and Leah, who just incidentally, share her love of community.

    Suzanne Gray works as a community development coordinator for Safer Futures. She has eight years experience in front line community work. Her achievements have included the development of three school-based youth safety initiatives featuring a “peer educating peer” model that has been adapted province-wide. Suzanne is a graduate of the Tillicum Haus Substance Abuse and Family Trauma Counsellor Training programs, and also has an improvisational theatre background. She specializes in working with youth at risk and community engagement and is passionate about preserving the wilderness environment.

    Thanya Al-Saadoon is a community development coordinator who loves working collaboratively. With a passion for and commitment to the enrichment of vibrant communities for all, Thanya finds many opportunities for connecting with agencies, elected officials and community members. Her background in Social Work and Counselling make her a natural in forming the collaborative relationships that are essential in this type of multi-sectoral work.
